It's always fun as a print shop to experience new papers that companies come out with and Mohawk never lets us down when it comes to creating product lines that really now how to impress. We are honestly a little late to the game here on getting a sample book but we have actually printed a handful of jobs lately where our customers wanted to use this new Keaykolour line and we were so stunned that I decided to order a sample book for Public.
Public Print is here to help educate and inform anyone who is interested in print and design about the processes and tools of the letterpress trade. We feel this is important because as the saying goes, knowledge is power. We feel that if someone needs something printed, the more educated and comfortable with the process they are the more confident they will be in their work.
Hand-written notes have become such a rarity in today’s world where keyboard and virtual keyboards are the norm. However, a few decades before emails and texts became so common, people used to mail thank you cards. Maybe some people send handwritten notes even today. But the percentage has certainly dropped. Some people believe that we should revive the habit of sending hand-written notes to friends and business clients. Why is it important to express gratitude through a hand-written note? What impact does it have on the receiver? Let us try to understand.

For this wedding invitation feature we have a really lovely gold foil suite for Paige + Cooper. The entire suite was printed on Mohawk Keaykolour and finished with a dull gold foil. We love the simple design and great use of typography.
Letterpress printing has been at the heart of all printing for over 500 years and was the main form of printing until rotary presses made industrial printing possible, and it wasn’t long after that when computers and printers came along.
In our digital age, you really don’t have to use print or pen and paper for anything. You can send out invitations online, you can friend someone on social media instead of handing them a business card, and you can even manage your whole schedule and your to-do list online.

You'll notice foil stamping on our website as a capability we offer but some people may to be quite sure what that actually is so in this blog post we will do our best to try and explain it! We actually do quite a bit of foil stamping and it's become a popular print method for lots of different applications. We see it often with wedding invitations and business cards but that doesn't mean that it's limited to just that.
This weeks Friday feature has us seeing foil and shades of red from BP Creative Group. We foil stamped a total of 6 pieces for this wedding invitation set. The main invite needed to be a little heavier stock than the rest of the pieces so we duplexed and glued two sheets of the paper together to create a double-thick cover.
We are a letterpress print shop so it would make sense to assume we are a couple of guys in here working on old machines and printing presses, pulling type out of drawers similar to the ones you’d find hanging on a wall holding knick-knacks in your house. While the old machines and printing presses might be true to some degree, we definitely aren’t pulling out lead type with tweezers and locking it up for printing. While traditional letterpress was done this way, our shop has more a modern-day take on the craft of letterpress printing.
